The Story: In The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec, the story centers on the intrepid Adèle Blanc-Sec, a daring journalist and adventurer, in 1911 Paris. The city is thrown into chaos when a 136-million-year-old pterodactyl egg, discovered in a museum, unexpectedly hatches, releasing the prehistoric creature into the streets. As panic spreads, the authorities are helpless, unable to control the flying beast. Meanwhile, Adèle embarks on a mission to Egypt to unlock the secrets of an ancient tomb. Her goal is to resurrect a long-dead Egyptian physician, Dr. Phyllos, whose knowledge she believes can save her sister, Agathe, who has been in a coma for months after a terrible accident.
Back in Paris, Adèle's adventure is complicated by the presence of Professor Espérandieu, a quirky and eccentric scientist who is inadvertently responsible for the pterodactyl’s return to life. His attempts to control the creature only add to the madness as he becomes both a target for the authorities and a reluctant ally to Adèle. As Adèle and the professor race against time, navigating rival treasure hunters, ancient curses, and a city in turmoil, they must find a way to stop the rampaging pterodactyl while continuing their mission to revive Dr. Phyllos.

Combining ancient magic, supernatural elements, and scientific curiosity, the story is an unpredictable and humorous ride that blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, as Adèle’s courage and intelligence drive her toward her ultimate goal: saving her sister and uncovering the truth behind the mysterious events unfolding in Paris.

My favourite part of the movie- One of the most memorable moments is when Adèle successfully revives the ancient Egyptian pharaoh and his court of mummies. Contrary to expectations, the mummies are not menacing but rather civilized and polite, with the physician among them immediately offering his medical expertise. The scene is both humorous and heartwarming, as the resurrected physician graciously agrees to help Adèle save her sister, blending ancient wisdom with a touch of magic. It’s a charming reminder of the film’s whimsical tone, where even the undead become allies in Adèle’s extraordinary journey.
The Look and Feel of the Movie:
Besson does a great job of bringing Tardi’s comic book world to life with stunning visuals. From the busy streets of Paris to the mysterious tombs of Egypt, every scene is beautifully crafted. While some of the CGI effects might feel a little outdated, they fit well in the movie’s quirky, magical world. The pterodactyl, for example, feels like a natural part of this fun story.

At its heart, the movie is about determination, love, and how far we’ll go for the people we care about. Adèle’s mission to save her sister is touching and shows her relentless spirit. The film also touches on the idea of how science can be used both wisely and recklessly.
